More about the future of Abarth

Abarth 500C esseesse

Last week, we had the oportunity to talk in deep about the future plans and models of Abarth in Europe with some staff of the brand. First things first, they confirmed that the MultiAir engine will not reach the european version of the Abarth 500, at least for the next two years.

They tell us that the engine doesn't fit in the chassis if they don't make some changes (the chassis of the USA 500's is a little different from the european 500). So in Europe the Abarth 500 will stay with the TJet engine in it's four power output options (135/140 hp standard version, 160 hp for the 595 and SS version, 180 hp for the 695 versions, and 210 hp for the 695 Assetto Corse version).

Then, we ask about bigger models than the Punto, and they told us that Abarth "will never make cars bigger than the 4-meter Punto", and "a Abarth Bravo makes non sense", so we will never have an Abarth Bravo in the near future.

Furthermore, we want to ask about the future of the reported two seater carbon fiber Abarth that should use the same chassis of the 4C Alfa Romeo. Without confirming it, we are told that the project was ditched some months ago. So the Abarth two seater with mid engine is cancelled, and they don't have plans to do anything like that.

We hope that they take a rethink about this, and finally launch an Abarth stand-alone coupe, something to answer cars like the recent Toyota GT 86, but in 4 meter long form. Am I dreaming? May be, but it should work...
