The 037 project started to give continuity to the succed on the world rally championship scene to the Fiat Group. The Fiat 131 Abarth was winning week after week, and Fiat was thinking about developing a full new Group B rally car.
The first obvios option was the X1/9 Prototype Abarth, that we photographied in our visit to Guy Moerenhout facilities last year (the picture below).
But after some developmen, the Corso Marche people decided to build a full new car using the Lancia Montecarlo as basis. It was called "037 project", and the car was spotted first with Abarth logos.
It was an Abarth project, but latter on it was launched as the Lancia 037 Rally car. In a couple of weeks we will cover it history at full, but today we want to make a photographs homage. So, enjoy it!
